Monica Förster

Strong, simple and poetic. This is the best way to describe Monica Förster’s work. The Swedish designer has gained international recognition for her ability to create modern, functional designs with a poetic twist.

Indeed, it was early on that design became a natural interest for Monica Förster. Her aptitude for creativeness and design took on an additional edge during her studies at two of Sweden’s largest design schools, Beckmans and Konstfack. Her talent quickly won recognition, and thus the Monica Förster Design Studio was established in 1999.

Monica Förster has infinite curiosity for new methods, material combinations and technologies. In her design work, she fashions small 3D paper models. This intuitive, tangible working process helps her test odd, unexpected opportunities that were not necessarily part of the original considerations. In Monica’s opinion, paper models are a fine contrast to computer-generated images where everything appears to be perfect.

In her work to create her first lamp series for Lightyears, Monica Förster has taken inspiration from the imaginations of children. She is fascinated by their open minds, their boundless imagination and their ability to create their own fantasy world.
